Hollyann Joyner first had an idea about doing a trunk or treat three years ago. She said that she “started planning it around three years ago, but last year was the first year it got executed.”
She said that she got the idea from a neighboring school that did it for their elementary kids. She wanted to “do something for the FMD students who can’t usually do it and have fun.
”It lasts about six hours for the CCHS students, and those six hours are all community service,” Joyner said.
Anyone can join, and she is hoping for at least 60 students to sign up for it. Trunk or Treat is nearly an all-day event for the students helping with it.
They leave around the second period to decorate their vehicles, and it will go into the third period. Then they eat lunch and, after that, change into their costumes if they need to.
After that, the FMD students will come and trunk or treat. There are fun games and activities for them to do throughout the time.
When they get done with trunk or treating, HOSA will have a party set up for them, which will have more games and activities for them to do.
Joyner said she enjoyed the students’ “laid-backness” and the effort they put into it, as well as how much love and care they have for the FMD students.
Last year, the students walked through it faster than she expected them to, so she added that she would like more people to join so there will be more for the kids to see and do.
“I’m most looking forward to the trunk-or-treat because I know how it feels to be left out,” she said.
