Freshman Landon Porter recently competed in the 2025 KHSAA State Cross Country meet at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Porter made his second consecutive trip to the state meet. He finished 73rd and achieved his goal of placing in the top 100.
That was a major achievement, as he was projected to finish 107th going into the contest. He has been running for a total of four years and counting. Porter also finished 13th at the regional meet held in Wayne County.
The Casey Compass asked Porter a series of questions about his performance at the meet.
- How does it feel as a freshman to be top 100 in the state?
“Feels really good.”
- What was your goal going into the state competition?
“To get Top 100 and not get pushed down because 8th grade year, I got pushed down at the 2nd corner, and I had to run the rest of the race.”
- What’s your goal going into next year?
“To train harder, get better and keep God by my side.”
- Did you know you had a chance at the top 100 while running?
“I was placed above 100 on the mile split. I didn’t think I was going to get top 100, but mentally, I knew I could.”
- What was going through your mind during the competition?
“I don’t think about anything while I run; my mind is blank. I’m locked in.”
Porter’s freshman cross country season is now over, but he said he’ll continue to build off this year’s success for the future.
